Us Yorkshire folk love a roast so it’s no surprise that seven Yorkshire pubs have featured in the top 50 gastropubs in the UK. With one taken then top spot!
Website Big7 Travel has released its top 50 gastropubs in the UK and God’s Own Country has done well for itself. Looks like we aren’t too bad at this gourmet lark
A Gastro pub is a boozer with food that can compete with top restaurants and our local country inns and city watering holes featured in the list.
Sitting in 1st place is Yorkshire’s, The Star Inn at Harome, which is a 14th-century thatched Michelin star restaurant. It recently opened after it burnt down so it’s great to hear.
Big7 travel noted its “modern, confident dishes, it uses local ingredients to make it the best of the best. Think: fish sourced from the North Sea, game from the Yorkshire Moors, and vegetables straight from the kitchen’s garden.”

The other six gastropubs featured in the top 50 included the buzzing Judge’s Lodging in York city centre which came in at 48 and was named as a proper gastro pub, where the food is every bit as good as any fine dining restaurant you’d ever enter and twice as wholesome.
After that was the two popular Michelin-star restaurant The Angel at Hetton, our local Pipe & Glass, which does an amazing and reasonably priced Sunday Roast.
And two charming country gastropubs the Cow & Calf which sits below Ilkley Moor and Sindpiper Inn in the Leyburn also featured and praised for their location and charm.
And in 13th place was The Hawthorne in Haworth which was recently voted the best Sunday Roast in the country by the team at Rate Good Roasts, who travel the length and breadth of the country to hunt out the best roasts this little island has to offer.
