45 Year Old Three Peaks Record Broken By Yorkshire Runner

A bit of a good news story to start your Friday off! Imogen Boddy, from Malton in North Yorkshire, has broken the National Three Peaks Challenge record that has stood for 45 years. Covering 680km (422 miles), Yorkshire runner complete three peaks in six days, five hours and 43 minutes.

In doing so, the 24-year-old set a new female record for the ascent of the highest mountains in each country. Climbing Scotland’s Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales running 100km per day.

The previous record holder Ann Sayer, who sadly passed away in 2020, completed the National Three Peaks in seven days in 1979. Boddy was inspired by Sayer to attempt the record for herself.

The BBC reported that she said: “It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done, it was absolutely brutal. It was incredible. I had so much support. In so many towns and villages, people came out to support me. I had trust in my coach, it was a real team effort.”

Posting to Instagram she wrote: “So much sleeping, reflecting, crying and celebrating to be done and I will share some of it at some point. The hardest week of my life but also a week with so many memories and laughter – the highest of peaks and lowest of troughs.”

This isn’t the Yokshire lass’ first achievement, back in 2022 Imogen became the youngest runner to run the length of the UK in 2022, completing it in 22 days.

We look forward to seeing what is next on the horizon for this amazing human being after the Yorkshire runner Three Peaks feat. What an achievement! Keep up to date via Imogen’s socials here.
