As its Veganuary, we thought we’d take some time this month to highlight some of the most creative and crazy good vegan spots there are across Yorkshire. Although not vegan ourselves, the food that these chefs are coming up with these days has our appetite wet. So we had to shout about them! One that really caught our eye recently was Junk Soul Smothered in Hull, a spot that specialises in plant-based and vegan junk food. Whether you’re a vegan or simply wanting to try something new – we’d recommend giving these a whirl during lockdown.

Making their rounds just once a week every Saturday, Junk Soul Smothered offers a delicious menu of highly Instagrammable food, with limited delivery slots available each week (making their burgers extra special!).

They do a range of ‘thicc’ vegan burgers that are packed full or flavour, as well as a range of sides such as their ‘chilli cheese fries’ and ‘BBQ bite box’. But the one that has our attention the most? The ‘Merry Midnight Maple’, which comes in a fluorescent blue bun – and consists of a 1/4 maple glazed plant patty, sugar fried onions, layers of ‘baconaise’, leaf and tomato. All burgers come with fries, and range in price from £10 to £12.50.

Their Instagram is really cool, too, with delicious photos that have us completely sold (not that it needs much selling) and captures their personalties with its quirky posts with funny eye-catching captions such as:
⚠️POLICE APPEAL FOR FILTHY BURGERS ⚠️
Have you seen these two burgers recently? They were last seen in the HU5 (Hull) area, smothering the public in sauce and imitating “real burgers”

Joining a vast array of fantastic burger joints in Hull, Junk Soul Smothered is one for the list – vegan or not and is available to order via their website here.
