There’s one particular dream of mine that I’ve been dying to tick off for a long time. A dream that, until recently I thought would only come true if I travelled to the heart of Tuscany to fulfill. Turns out I was wrong. Very wrong, in fact, since there just so happens to be a number of vineyards right here in Yorkshire – including the wonderful Laurel Vines.
Nestled in the Yorkshire Wolds on the outskirts of Driffield in East Yorkshire, Laurel Vines brings a slice of the Mediterranean to the region with its vast vineyard – which not only produces a number of exceptional English wines, but also hosts a weekly vineyard picnic that guests can enjoy, too.

Accompanied by views of the surrounding Wolds for miles, the stunning rural vineyard boasts a beautifully decorated terrace that visitors can lounge on, with a menu of whites, reds, and rosé available to enjoy, But our favourite offering? The vineyard’s summer picnics.
Available to book on Thursdays and some Saturdays, the vineyard picnics allow guests to enjoy the scenery in a wholesome manner, with guests able to pick a spot among the vines to pitch up with their very own basket of goodies.
Naturally, each basket contains a bottle of your choice to sup in the summer sun (among the vines it was grown on!), alongside a blanket and Yorkshire goodies such as Yorkshire Crisps, locally-made scones, fresh sandwiches made with local produce, and a bottle of water.
Guests can enjoy their grub with panoramic views of the beautiful East Yorkshire countryside, the blissful sounds of birds tweeting and leaves rustling in the breeze, and the knowledge that another bottle is never more than a few metres away when relaxing at Laurel Vines.

The picnic also includes a guided tour with the vineyard’s in-house experts, who’ll escort guests through the grounds to see where the magic happens (and even spill a few little-known facts on how the magic happens).
In addition to their gorgeous summer picnics, Laurel Vines also hosts an array of other events, too, including wine bar open days where guests can rock up and enjoy a few drinks on the terrace, and even newly introduced Friday food nights, hosted by the vineyard’s new in-house chef (who we’ve heard whips up a mean pie!).
Tickets to all of Laurel Vines’ planned events are available on their website here, and we highly recommend trying their Madeleine Angevine (perfect for white wine fans) and the refreshing Rondo Rosé.
