Leeds Named In The Top Five Happiest Place To Work In The UK

Looks like Yorkshire’s biggest city is a great place to work, believe it or not. As Leeds is named in the top five happiest cities in the UK for workers. It’s a fast growing city with its skyline changing rapidly and the suburbs evolving ever more. And, now it seems that with all that people are at peace with the city believing it to be a great place to work.

The study that named it so was by Furniture at Work, and it looked at a range of factors in order to discover the happiest regions in the country for work. It looked at things such as flexible working (which has become a huge factor since lockdown), average salary, and lifestyle factors in order to make a decision.

Leeds had an index rank of 69.9, and, being the biggest city in Yorkshire, obviously has a lot of opportunities in regards to jobs so is able to pull in young talent from across the country. It has great links to other cities via the train, links and bus routes to speed up commutes and also a local airport. It also has a young population being one of the biggest student cities in the country.

Sheffield came in 13th place and Hull in 19th with Bradford also making an appearance in 21st place.

A spokesperson for the research said: “Looking at the results of this study, it’s no surprise that London continues to be one of the world’s most desirable cities to work and study in – especially thanks to the world-class public transport available to speed up commute times and diverse population allowing communities to flourish.”

Also saying: “Work satisfaction isn’t just about the job itself but how it affects your everyday life both in and out of work. This study offers practical insights for employers to consider that directly impact culture and overall happiness, which also encourage staff retention.”

But, what beat out Yorkshire’s top city to the number one spot?

Coming in first place was Edinburgh. Surprisingly, the Scottish city beat out London for the top spot. In third place was Bristol, and Leeds came next in fourth and Newcastle fifth.

So, there you have it. If you’re looking to head to a city for work, then maybe you need to consider Leeds as you’re go to. Having lived in the city – albeit a few years ago now – I can attest to it being a great place to work. They have plenty of trains, plenty of great lunch spots in town and a varied market for jobs.
