This Hidden Waterfall Walk In West Yorkshire Is Perfect For Summer

Now, we love a hidden gem. And, this beautiful series of cascading waterfalls located near Hebden Bridge, Lumb Hole Falls in West Yorkshire, is just that. The picturesque fairytale waterfalls sit in a pocket of woodland and make for a peaceful and idyllic walk.

The land is privately owned, and the area has been closed off by the farmer who owns the land before due to unruly behaviour and littering in the past. So, make sure you are respectful when visiting. It’s located just three miles North of Hebden Bridge and just two miles from the National Trust spot Hardcastle Craggs.

It’s a great day out for a fun adventure, where you can enjoy a dip in the plunge pool below the waterfall for those of you who are fans of wild swimming. If not, you can enjoy a nice picnic. The falls are located on Crimsworth Dean Beck, which is a tributary of the River Calder, which meanders its way through the Calder Valley.

Getting down to the Lumb Hole Falls requires rock climbing/ scrambling down, and doesn’t have disabled access. You can sit above the falls and watch the water flow into the plunge pool instead. If you’re like me, someone who doesn’t enjoy cold water, this would be preferable. There is a footbridge to cross above the waterfall to access the other side.

To walk the Lumb Hole Falls Trail, you can park in Hebden Bridge centre and instead head towards the falls from one of several country roads and footpaths on offer. For a shorter walk, you can park at the National Trust car park at Hardcastle Crags.

As with all hidden gem spots, please be aware when visiting Lumb Hole Falls to leave no trace of you having been there and be respectful to the nature surrounding. Leave it as you found it so that others may enjoy the natural beauty spot.
