The Yellow Tie is a musical biopic that tells the epic true story of Sergiu Celibidache, a legendary conductor, following him from childhood under his father’s draconian authority to mastering his craft in Berlin as an adult. It has a huge cast, including Academy Award-nominated John Malkovich and BAFTA-winning Sean Bean, as well as Academy Award nominee Miranda Richardson and Kate Phillips.
Icon Film Distribution is releasing the new biopic in UK cinemas on 9th October 2026. The Yellow Tie is filled with powerful set pieces and incredible classical music, with the score including Bruckner, Berlioz, and Brahms.
Bean plays the Draconian father of Sergiu, a role fitting for his acting talents. Malkovich plays an elder Celibidache, a successful yet cynical and hot-tempered maestro railing against music being taken over by technology. The younger version is played by rising star Ben Schnetzer, a man torn between family loyalty and following his calling.
It’s said the film recalls the likes of Celibidache, Adrien Brody Oscar-winner The Pianist and Bradley Cooper’s celebrated Maestro. Brilliantly directed and a unique tale of family and genius ascent against the backdrop of oppression, bigotry and war.
