We were gripped by the Peaky Blinders movie The Immortal Man, which saw Cillian Murphy step out once more as the iconic Tommy Shelby. It also set up the next chapter of Steven Knight’s award-winning drama series, for which the cast of new actors has been announced.
The new series is set a decade after the Second World War, ushering in a new era for Peaky Blinders. Jamie Bell and Charlie Heaton will play Duke and Charles Shelby, who are racing to rebuild Birmingham while facing uncertainty and threats from rival gangs.
Game of Thrones star Conleth Hill joins the cast as Peaky Blinders rival Clemmy Keeler, the formidable patriarch of the Keeler crime family. Cal O’Driscoll will star alongside him as Clemmy’s son.
Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and Lucy Karczewski have also joined the cast, although details of their roles remain under wraps. Aidan Keeler is also set to appear, while Daniel Monks will take on the role of Detective Inspector Bell.
Ned Dennehy and Packy Lee are set to reprise their roles from the original series and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, returning as Charlie Strong and Johnny Dogs respectively.
Yorkshireman Samuel Bottomley, who hails from Wibsey in Bradford, is part of Duke Shelby’s Peaky Blinders crew, playing Eliot. He joins Angelo (Arturo Muselli, Gomorrah), Frank (Eugene Collins, The Bay), and Kezia Lee (Lucie Shorthouse, We Are Lady Parts).
Bradford-born Samuel Bottomley is among the new faces joining the cast. The Wibsey actor is best known for his acclaimed lead performance in Channel 4 drama Somewhere Boy, as well as roles in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Ackley Bridge and The Last Kingdom. His appearance in Peaky Blinders is set to further raise the profile of one of Yorkshire’s most promising young acting talents.
Speaking previously about the new series, creator Stephen Knight said: “I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 1950s.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s eldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast,” he added.
The new series, which will serve as the eighth instalment of Peaky Blinders, is set to consist of six one-hour episodes. It will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and internationally on Netflix.
