Netflix Set To Film New Series Of ‘The Crown’ In Hull – And They’re Recruiting

Anyone well acquainted with Netflix will have heard of the headline-hitting drama, The Crown by now. It’s quite the talking point between fans of the Windsor-Mountbattens, thanks to its rare insider’s view into the Royal family and their seemingly scandalous lives (despite its arguable inaccuracies).

Now, gearing up for its fifth season, filming crews for the production have been spotted popping up across Yorkshire, with crews seen filming in both Wentworth Woodhouse and Bradford filming earlier this year.

Now producers have been granted permission to shoot scenes across three days in Hull, East Yorkshire in late October on Alfred Gelder Street and Queen Victoria Square in the city centre.

Hull City Centre will see around 300 extras descend upon the area, which will be used for scenes set in the 1940s, which suggest ‘flashback’ scenes to Queen Elizabeth’s teenage years.

Buildings of interest found on these streets are listed buildings, Guildhall and the Maritime Buildings on Alfred Gelder Street and City Hall, Ferens Art Gallery, and the Maritime Museum in Queen Victoria Square.

The shoots are for the upcoming fifth and sixth series of The Crown, which will be set in the 1990s onwards.

Along with the up and coming Hull shoot, they also completely transformed Bradford into a 1994 Moscow, photos show Russian signage placed on building fronts in Little Germany, alongside period prop cars reminiscent of the era.

It’s reported that the scenes will recreate the Queen and Prince Philip’s time in Russia – played by Imelda Staunton and Jonathan Pryce, respectively.

Crews have also been spotted setting up to shoot at Wentworth Woodhouse, Rotherham, however, little is known about which cast members could be visiting the village.

Rumours indicate that the stunning Yorkshire house could be standing in as a Russian palace, however, we’ll have to wait for the release of season 5 later this year to find out.

Hull’s Old Town is usually one of the spots that are popular with filmmakers with the Netflix film Enola Holmes featuring Millie Bobbie Brown was filmed last year.
