A new budget supermarket is set to open in the UK soon. The new online supermarket Motatos, is set to rival the likes of Aldi, Lidl and Asda.
The Swedish supermarket is set to open in the UK this summer and promises discounted prices on a range of goods by offering surplus food from wholesalers.
New budget supermarket set to rival Aldi, Lidl and Asda is opening in the UK. They were founded in 2014, where it is known as Matsmart, and expanded to Denmark, Finland and Germany now they are coming to the UK at some point next month.
They offer British shoppers an opportunity to buy ‘well-known products that would otherwise risk ending up in landfill’ due to changes in packaging, seasonal changes or short best before dates’. The company’s offering comes at a time when sustainability and wastage are huge issues, so this seems like a great solution to a problem.
They will be offering goods such as large pack, beverage, snacks, household goods, pets and beauty. Third-party companies will deliver your orders between one and three days with the cost of shipping depending on the size of orders.
UK country manager Christabel Biella told The Grocer: “UK shoppers are incredibly passionate about sustainability but they need easy and cost-effective ways to make sustainable choices that often come with a hefty price tag.
“That is why I’m so excited to join Motatos, especially at this point in its development following incredible success in other European markets.”
