Northern Monk’s Opening Date For Underground Beer & Food Hall Serving Huge Burgers

The Northern Market in Leeds is Northern Monk’s latest offering was announced earlier this year that they will take over Assembly Underground on Great George Street in the city centre. The Yorkshire brewery’s latest offering is set to be a combination of beer hall serving up their top notch beer from 10 tap lines and on-site beer tanks along with a bustling food market.

Along with Northern Monk’s classic beers, you can also enjoy a range of frozen cocktails in the summer months.The new Northern Market in Leeds city centre has announced some food vendors which are Falafel Guys, Big Buns and Six Slice Pizza with more set to be announced.

The new underground beer spot will be a welcome addition to the city centre especially for those that love a craft beer. Northern Monk already have the Refectory taproom which opened back in 2014, which is located in The Old Flax Store on Marshall Street.

Russell Bisset Co-Founder of Northern Monk, discussed the opening, saying: “At Northern Monk we’re on a mission to create incredible beer experiences. If we do our job right, hopefully some of the best in the world. We’ve long harboured dreams of more Northern Monk venues where we can do just that, but the pandemic sadly pushed those back.

“Our two current tap rooms are based in former textile mills where we’ve really celebrated their heritage and role in the North. The Northern Market sees us take on a 140-year-old Grade II listed building, directly opposite Leeds Town Hall in the heart of the city’s civic quarter. We can’t wait to give the building a new lease of life as the Northern Market, alongside our food vendors, while acknowledging its history and place in the city.” 

The new underground spot, Northern Market will open to the public at 11:45am on Friday 3rd November. At 5pm there will be a pre-party for the brewery’s Dark and Wild beer festival, which is set to take place at the Refectory on Saturday. Enjoy guest beers from nine different international breweries pouring, as well as Northern Monk beers.

Yorkshire Evening Post reported that Abdalla and Ahmed Gouda of Falafel Guys said its ‘their mission’ to bring life back to the venue saying: “When we started with Falafel Guys, our goal was to bring people together using food, and the Northern Market is an extension to that. What everyone can expect is great food, in a super welcoming and fun space.”
