Despite the recent news that Northern Rail’s franchise could be stripped in a matter of months, the rail provider is currently recruiting to try and eradicate the internal issues that have caused passengers so many problems in recent years.
Advertising the position on their Facebook page, Northern Rail said:
“As a train driver it’s your responsibility to ensure our customers reach their destination in a safe manner and on time.
“Our drivers work hard to maintain high levels of route and train knowledge to ensure that safety is kept at the forefront of our operations.
“Although most of the time you will be working on your own in the driver’s cab, you will need to be able to communicate effectively with others in the wider team, including your conductor, dispatch and control colleagues, and of course our customers.
“You don’t need any previous train driving experience to apply as we offer full training as part of the role”
Of course, the “on time” part should probably be taken with a pinch of salt, but if you fancy a cheeky pay-rise and a new challenge – this could be the job for you.
The salary for the position comes in levels – with a salary of £23,326 during training, £38,626 for your first year, £42,634 for your second and £53,319 for your third. All jokes aside, the incentive is definitely attractive and the company clearly rewards its staff for their loyalty.
The position is available across the region, and drivers will be required to train at either their Manchester or Leeds training academies.
