‘It’s not in Yorkshire’. We know! But, the Peak’s borders – and even heads into Yorkshire – so we are taking it for our own. And this lesser-known Peak District village has been named as a top holiday spot in a recent study. Monyash, has been highlighted for its location to lots of amazing activities making it a prime place to stay.
The Peak District is a popular spot for tourist with summer being especially busy due to its fantastic hikes and even more fantastic pubs. And, the village was picked by Schofield’s Insurance, due to its ‘outstanding’ crime rates and range of local attractions.
A spokesperson said: “This is a hidden gem of a village with a remarkably low crime rate of 12.05 crimes per 100 thousand people, making it the 32nd safest village in Derbyshire. It is famed for its five ponds, 20 wells and thriving community, but it is also located perfectly in the rolling hills of the stunning Lathkill Dale making it an excellent base to explore the Peak District.”
But what is the Peak District’s Monyash close to?
“You can walk straight out of the village across the White Peak landscape with walks to suit everyone, from four-mile circulars to the long-distance trail, The Limestone Way. Just a short car journey away, you can access all the best the Peak District has to offer, including the Monsal Dale Headstone viaduct and the Monsal Trail cycling route along the old railway line, the iconic Chatsworth House, which has incredible grounds to explore – perfect for a family day out – and the spa town of Buxton.
As well as being cose to walking trails such as The Limestone Way, and the Monsal Dale Headstone viaduct and Monsal Trail cycling route along the old railway line – it’s also close to the stately home, Chatsworth House and of course Buxton.
