York is packed full of amazing historic pubs that are hundreds of years old. Along with these ancient wonders with slanting floors and other quirky interiors are some newer more modern pubs. One thing they all have in common is that they serve great craft ales and have warm inviting atmospheres that are perfect any time of year. York pubs have always been a popular choice for tourists due to its vast number of pubs in the city centre.

From pubs with great interiors to others serving up a wholesome meal, we’ve found the best ones for you to visit next time you’re in town.

1. House of Trembling Madness

The original House Of Trembling Madness sits on Stonegate and is a great little pub with a beer shop below, but our favourite one is on Lendal and is in a magnificent Georgian building. The ‘Craft Beer Mansion’ has so much character and charm that elevates the enjoyment of your beer whilst you visit. Two floose house craft beers and 11 kegs on each floor, so there is plenty to taste and try over inside the big spacey mansion.
