Sean Bean To Play The Sheriff of Nottingham In New Robin Hood TV Series

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Sean Bean will star as the infamous Sheriff of Nottingham in a new Robin Hood television series for MGM+, set to premiere later in 2025. Bean, well known for his iconic roles in Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings, is set to appear alongside Connie Nielsen from Gladiator and Wonder Woman, who is taking on the role of Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Brought to you by MGM+, a first look image, set in a grand banquet hall, has been released from the new drama, offering a glimpse into what’s to come. The image teases rivalries and high-stakes power struggles at the core of the reimagined tale. Bean’s version of the villain is described as “a statesman, a strategist, and a builder of Nottingham itself”, ruling with an iron hand.

You can expect a fresh perspective on the well-known Robin Hood mythos. We all know the old tale of Robin Hood stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. This new TV series is set to focus on a sweeping romantic adventure that blends historical authenticity with psychological depth, according to John Glenn, the showrunner of Lionsgate Television.

There’s a focus on the evolving relationship between Robin and Marian, offering a more character-driven approach to the classic story.

Fans of Sean Bean have plenty to look forward to, as the Sheffield-born actor takes on one of folklore’s most iconic antagonists, starring alongside Jack Patten in what could be one of the year’s standout series.

There’s no confirmed release date yet, but it’s expected later this year.
