Being so close to the coast, and the fact we have got fish chips in Yorkshire down to fine art, it’s not surprising that six Yorkshire chips shops have been named the best in the UK in this year’s Fry Awards. When it comes to the crispy batter, and fluffy chips we are kings.

The Fry Magazine has named their top 50 fish & chip shops in the UK and Yorkshire has six from across the county in its list. What is quite a shock though, is none of them is from our beautiful seaside towns, which provide some of the best we’ve ever tried.
The awards are decided by mystery judges visiting each nominated place and judging the food and other aspects such as front-of-house hygiene, customer service skills, friendliness of the staff and their knowledge – even including the premise’s social media presence to decide a victor.

And although the shop itself is important, the food is the main focus and ratings are made on factors such as the flakiness of the fish, crispiness of chips, the crunch of batter and value for money.
