The Sunday Times has released its annual edition of the top places to live across the UK and we’ve got Yorkshire’s top spots named by the newspaper just for you. The 2026 list was published on Friday showcasing the best that Britain has to offer.
In the top spot was Norwich which was crowned number one. In second place was Malmesbury in Wiltshire and then bringing in the bronze is Yorkshire’s getway to the Dales, Skipton, wihch the Times noted: “If you’re happy and you know it, make a move to this market town at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.”

Writing about Skipton, the newspaper said: “Skipton is properly grounded and strongly connected to the spectacular surrounding landscape. It’s a place where traditional businesses thrive and a haven for families drawn by the excellent schools and affordable property prices.
“The volunteering culture is strong – the local Rotary Club’s annual Eco Day raises funds for wildlife and nature charities, bringing together groups such as Share Skipton, which operates a Library of Things that allows members to borrow anything from a disco ball to a leaf blower and also holds monthly repair cafés.”

Some folk might think this lists are plucked out of the air, but there is some reasoning to it. The list is compiled by experts who toured the various locations in the country at the newspaper using a range of factors such as broadband speeds and school standards to the vitality of the high street, The Mirror reports.
Helen Davies, editorial projects director and Best Places to Live editor, said: “This guide is a great opportunity to highlight the wonderful work that communities across the country are doing.” Lloyds Banking Group supplied the average house price data for each of the winning locations, spanning from £252,300 to an eye-watering £916,900.
