York Christmas markets are now in full swing – and if you’ve decided to brave the hectic crowds of a weekend in the centre of York, you’ll be awarded with some twinkling lights and fantastic huts serving up amazing handmade creations as well as wonderful food offerings. One such tasty offering is The Cut and Crafts’ stall serving Steak frites with peppercorn sauce.
The classic dish that originated in France and Belgium is a unbeatable mixture of chips topped with steak. The stall serves up your steak either well done or rare. We went for the rare option. We then had it topped with peppercorn sauce that was so moreish! They also have their own seasoning, which we had to add on as well.
The classic steak and chips is served on a fluffy flatbread as well, and will set you back £14 but you get your monies worth – we can assure you. Found on Parliament Street, the beloved steakhouse is cooking up a storm. You can also have pulled pork burgers from the stall as well.
We’d go as far to say that this was the best thing we’ve eaten at York Christmas Market right now! And, we’ve eaten a lot!

This year’s festivities are set to take over Parliament Street from Thursday 16th November to Friday 22nd December 2023. Transforming it and St Sampson’s Square into a winter wonderland.
One big change is Thor’s Tipi, which won’t feature in the city centre this time having done so since 2015 – which will be missed by us for sure. It’s set to move from its usual spot on Parliament street to Museum Gardens.

We can’t wait for York to be glittering with lights. The historic city lends itself to the time of year and is one of our favourite wintery spots to visit over the period. The 74 chalets will be selling more Yorkshire products than usual as Make It York vow to really push the Yorkshire Christmas this year.
