Only last week, two Yorkshire eateries were awarded their first Michelin stars, further strengthening the region’s thriving dining scene. The two restaurants added to the prestigious list were FIFTY TWO at Rudding Park in Harrogate and JÖRO in Sheffield, each receiving one of the culinary world’s most coveted accolades.
While Michelin-starred dining can often come with a hefty price tag, the guide also recognises more affordable excellence through its Bib Gourmand award — and this year, one Yorkshire restaurant made the cut.
The Michelin Bib Gourmand was introduced in 1997 to highlight restaurants offering exceptional food at a more wallet-friendly price point. Bib Gourmand establishments aren’t expected to serve “molecular gastronomy or extremely precious ingredients”, but instead provide diners with “a particular sense of satisfaction at having dined so well without breaking the bank”.
For 2026, 32 UK restaurants were awarded a Bib Gourmand — including one in Yorkshire: Norman’s Neighbourhood Kitchen in Kirkburton, West Yorkshire, south of Huddersfield.
Writing about the restaurant, Michelin said: “The name (almost) says it all here: it is indeed an endearing neighbourhood bistro, but Norman is not in fact the owner – instead, it’s the name of both the owner’s dog and his grandfather.”
It adds: “Rustic décor adds to the welcoming feel, as do the polite, helpful service team. The sharing plates offer great value and have a playful streak, as evidenced by the pig’s cheek glazed in Henderson’s Relish, the cult condiment from nearby Sheffield.
“The wine list is concise but, refreshingly, it’s all available by the glass – and the local ales are understandably popular.”
