One half of the beloved TV cooking duo, The Hairy Bikers, Dave Myers, has died aged 66, two years after revealing his cancer diagnosis. Known for travelling around the UK with his other bearded pal, Si King, sampling the countries food offering for over 20 years, Myers will be deeply missed.
Si King has said: “will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime”. The pair started out on the journey together 20 years ago becoming hugely popular due to their unique blend of tasty recipes, cheeky humour and irresistible enthusiasm. King posting on Hairy Bikers X account wrote: “I’m afraid I bear some sad news. Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years.
“Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home. All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.
“Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow.
“I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you God’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.”
Along with the heartfelt message on the Hairy Bikers X account were a range of beautiful pictures of the pair. Showing how much of a great friendship the truly had.
Yorkshire TV chef, James Martin shared a snap of Dave Myers to his Instagram with the caption: “I am lost for words, a very special man.”
Fans have been sharing their love as well with one person writing: “Really sad, he always came across as a really lovely bloke. I can hear his voice when I look at the photo. Rest easy…”
Another wrote: “Aw man, I’m glad he got back on the bike, and got to visit some of the places that meant most to him in the last series. You can see he was wringing every bit of joy out of his life.”
And a third wrote: “RIP Dave Myers . Thank you for all your wonderful food and the laughter along the way . Sending condolences, heartfelt sympathies and love to your family, friends, loved ones & to Si . Rest easy now dave”
This is one passing that really hit home at The Yorkshireman, as Dave Myers was such a beautiful soul. The pair regularly featured Yorkshire on their shows and talked lovingly about the area as well as the food, and people.
