Boris Johnson announced on Monday that nightclubs could open for the first time since the start of the pandemic on the 19th of July, and one nightclub has taken that literally. The Backroom, found on Call Lane, plans to open its doors one minute after midnight on Monday, they announced.
Taking to social media The Backroom said: “FREEDOM PARTY – 19.07.21 – 12:01am. If you haven’t already booked Monday off work yet, this is your friendly reminder to get that holiday request in now, because we PROMISE you do not want to miss this one!”
“We aren’t waiting until Monday night and we don’t think you should either! Be sure to join us for a night of good music, dancing and good vibes.”
It’s been a long and stressful slog for the UK’s nightclubs, which have waited 16 months to reopen, and The Backroom are keen to get back to what they do best.
They said: “After 16 months closed WE WILL 1000% be re-opening.”
The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson announced at the press conference that they will lift restrictions saying he plans to “lift legal restrictions and to lift social distancing, but we expect and recommend that people wear a face-covering in crowded and enclosed spaces where you come into contact with those you don’t normally meet, such as on public transport.”
He continued: “As a matter of social responsibility we’re urging nightclubs and other venues with large crowds to make use of the NHS Covid Pass which shows proof of vaccination, recent negative test or natural immunity, as a means of entry.”
