This Yorkshire Cafe Sits Beneath A Huge Grape Vine

Tucked away within the beautiful Helmsley Walled Garden, the Vinehouse Café has to be one of the most unique spots for coffee and cake in Yorkshire.

Set inside an 18th-century walled garden that once served Helmsley Castle, the café offers visitors the chance to relax beneath sprawling grape vines inside a stunning Victorian glasshouse.

The vines meander across the roof overhead, creating a wonderfully Mediterranean atmosphere, while tables sit beneath amongst the greenery. Whether you’re stopping by for a coffee and cake or settling in for hot food and lunch, it’s an incredibly wholesome setting to while away an afternoon.

Once you’ve finished eating, there’s plenty more to explore beyond the café itself. The gardens are packed with colour and interest throughout the year, with visitors able to wander through vibrant flower beds, blossom trees and beautiful arches of laburnum and wisteria, although we unfortunately just missed them at their peak this season.

From spring tulips to summer blooms, every corner of the garden feels carefully designed for a slow stroll and a peaceful escape.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly day out with great food, excellent coffee and one of the prettiest settings in Yorkshire, the Vinehouse Café at Helmsley Walled Garden is well worth the trip.
