Yorkshire continues to earn its stripes on the UK’s culinary map, with Leeds securing a place in Time Out’s 11 Best Food Cities in the UK for 2025. The West Yorkshire city landed in ninth place, praised particularly for its affordability, which, considering the cost-of-living crisis, is a major plus. Its growing café culture was praised also.
While Leeds didn’t score as highly on food ‘excitement’ as some of the country’s trendier cities, with just 29% of locals describing the scene as ‘exciting’, the city still holds strong appeal for food lovers who appreciate great value and variety. Whether it’s a hearty meal at Bundobust, artisanal dishes at Ox Club, or a quick caffeine fix from one of its many stylish independents like Laynes Espresso, Leeds offers something for every palate.
Two of Leeds’ neighbourhood restaurants featured in the list of the top 100 UK restaurants. Bavette, in Horsforth offering a menu of seasonally led classically driven dishes and The Swine, Bistro, Headlingley, known for its cosy, playful, and flavourful menu. They also have the fantastic White Cloth Food Hall in the city center, which is home to some brilliant eateries in a relaxed setting perfect for a couples date, meeting friends or just grabbing a treat for lunch on your break.
The Time Out list, compiled using survey data from thousands of Brits alongside insights from local food experts, crowned Liverpool as the number one UK food city, followed by Brighton, London, Cardiff, and Bristol. Cities were rated on food quality, affordability, variety, and hospitality.
