Marcus Skeet, known online as TheHullBoy, is attempting to become the youngest person ever to run the entire length of the UK. Covering the 1,600km journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats, Marcus is raising money and awareness for Mind, the mental health charity.
An Inspirational Challenge
Remarkably, Marcus only started running a year ago, beginning with a “mile-a-day challenge.” Now, he is taking on this incredible feat running over 20 miles every day for 50/60 days, aiming to become the first person under 18 to complete the full-length run of the UK.
Currently on Day 3 of this massive challenge, he’s already raised over £10,000. Being from Hull, my home county, we couldn’t be prouder to support Marcus in this awe-inspiring journey.
Speaking about his motivation, Marcus wrote: “On paper, this looks like an impossible task, but for me, this is everything I have ever dreamed of since I started running. I’d like to dedicate this challenge to a lad named Felix, who took me under his wing when I started secondary school.”
“I found out late last year that he had lost his battle with mental health. Felix inspired me through so much in life, and I do this for him and for all those we’ve lost to this horrible battle.”
Marcus has set a goal of raising £100,000 for Mind, and every donation makes a huge difference in supporting this important cause. His determination has even caught the attention of famous endurance runner Russ Cook, aka @hardestgeezer—the first person to run the full length of Africa.
Russ shared Marcus’ story on Instagram, writing: “Marcus has had so much to overcome in his 16 years in this world—from struggling with his own mental health to bullying and online abuse, and much more that’s not for me to go into here.”
“Despite all of that, he is an absolute beacon of positive energy, and he tirelessly spreads it everywhere he goes. In a world that can feel so negative at times, people like Marcus are needed more than ever.”
