This Yorkshire Lido Is Offering Unique Full Moon Swims This September

Looking for an experience like no other? This tranquil moonlit swim at Ilkley Lido, set against views of Ilkley Moor, might be just the thing. Whether you’re a seasoned wild swimmer, keen to give it a try, or simply a night owl seeking something magical in nature, this full moon swim is a truly unique experience that’s proved hugely popular this summer.

At the last moonlit swim, more than 400 people were said to have taken the plunge, showing just how much this rare event captures the imagination. As one of the few lidos of its kind still open, Ilkley offers something unforgettable — a chance to connect with the great outdoors in a way that feels almost timeless. And, as this is the final Ilkley Lido Full Moon Swim of 2025, you’d be a fool to pass it up.

Located in the popular spa town of Ilkley in West Yorkshire is home to a 45-meter-long and 12 meters wide long outdoor pool offering great views of the surrounding countryside. It’s one of the largest and best outdoor swimming pools and lidos in Yorkshire, and it’s perfect for the summer heat. But be aware that the pool is not heated. The unique placement of this lido and the gorgeous views make this a unique experience for sure.

Organised by the Ilkley Pool & Lido Community Group, the next Full Moon Swim takes place on Sunday 7th September from 6pm to 8pm. All funds raised go directly towards supporting Ilkley Lido. On the night, you’ll also find a coffee van and Ilkley Kitchen serving up cakes and biscuits to keep you warm after your dip.

The September full moon is known as the Corn Moon. With sunset at 7.42pm, swimmers can expect to see the lido bathed in twilight as the moon rises — the perfect setting for a once-in-a-lifetime swim.
