A Walk Full of Natural Wonders with Autumnal Colours Galore
The arboretum is an incredible collection of trees from across the globe. Many are extremely rare, some highly unique, and many are ancient. The estate proudly holds 51 Champion Trees, all recorded on the Tree Register. The register was set up in 1988 and records historic, remarkable, and rare trees across the UK and Ireland. One of the highlights of your visit will be just strolling around taking in the majesty of these natural wonders.
Autumn, in particular, is a magical time to visit, with the arboretum coming alive with leaves from trees such as Persian ironwoods, Italian alders, and Japanese maples turning vivid golds, oranges, and reds. Walking around the grounds is incredibly peaceful and tranquil, and those colours will bring you nothing but joy.
Once you have explored the woodland, you can also really get on the wild side and visit the Bird of Prey and Mammal Centre. It holds approximately 100 birds from across the globe, including falcons, owls, caracaras, kookaburras, and eagles. In the Mammal Centre, there are cheeky meerkats, wallabies, and African pygmy goats to meet.

- Art at the Summerhouse – The Walton Group of Artists are taking residence for two weeks. They are showcasing a collection of artwork including originals, cards, and prints. (12th – 26th September 2026)
- Deer Willow Weaving – You can join expert willow artist Wendy Bristow of Twigs and Springs for a festive and creative workshop. During this hands-on session, you can make your own stunning willow deer sculpture. It is perfect for beginners and experienced crafters. (30th September 2026)
- Halloween Trail – This popular spooktacular event is perfect for your special little monsters. You will travel through Captain’s Creek, CarnEVIL, and Widow’s Web, and so much more. Get ready for some frightening fun this autumn. (3rd October – 1st November)
- Pottery Painting with Daisy Doodle – Join Daisy Doodle for a relaxing pottery painting workshop. The workshop provides all equipment, glazing, and four different pots to paint. All experience levels are welcome. (11th October 2026)
If you are feeling peckish after your walk and/or event, you can visit the Tea Room for delicious seasonal lunches, homemade cakes, and teas and coffees. You can either sit inside or, on a clear day, outside on the patio, overlooking the gardens. If you are feeling a little fancy, enjoy a traditional Afternoon Tea.
