For the first time, the pair will be illuminated simultaneously as part of the yearly fully choreographed projection show. The family-friendly projections theme this year will bring York’s rich history to life, uncovering the rogues, rebels and legends who have shaped the city over the centuries. With no tickets required, Colour & Light is designed to be welcoming and accessible for all. The final hour of each evening will feature a quieter experience with reduced noise and crowd levels, and benches will be available for visitors who need them.

Colour & Light has become a much-loved feature of York’s winter calendar, previously illuminating landmarks such as York Minster and the city’s art gallery. York BID says the 2026 event marks an exciting new chapter by using the largest canvas to date.

York BID’s Carl Alsop said: “Colour and Light has become a real bright spot in York’s winter calendar, and we’re proud to be bringing it back bigger than ever for 2026. Making the event completely free is incredibly important to us. It means anyone can come into the city centre, enjoy the atmosphere, and experience our city after dark.”

Agreeing also was Andrea Selley, operations director at English Heritage, who commented: “Clifford’s Tower is the largest remaining part of York’s royal castle and has a dramatic and sometimes tragic history. We’re thrilled this iconic landmark will be part of this unique and inspiring event, which brings so many people together.”

Colour & Light runs nightly from 4th to 22nd February 2026 at the Eye of York, offering a free, unforgettable way to experience York after dark.
