Two Yorkshire Fish & Chip Shops Featured In Top 20 In The UK

It’s Tuesday, it’s lunchtime – and all I want to eat now is fish & chips. Fish, chips & curry sauce with a can of dandelion and burdock to be precise. And, it looks like I’m in look at one of the best fish & chip shops in the UK is right on my doorstep on the Yorkshire Coast.

Featuring in The Guardian’s UK top 20, is Lighthouse Fisheries of Flamborough found along the coast, were all the best chippies are in our humble opinion. The restaurant has one a whole host of awards recently, so we aren’t surprised to see it featuring in this list. We recently tried it for ourselves and were left feel more than satisfied. If, you’re in the region, maybe pottering to see Flamborough Lighthouse, or North Landing – it’s well worth a visit.

The Guardian said that the chippy does “things properly” pointing out “fish is sustainably sourced; chips triple cooked; crab cakes are locally renowned; and there are nods to modish tastes with poutine, too.”

Next on the list, a chippy famous throughout the country is The Magpie Cafe. Sometimes favourites are a favourites for a reason and sometimes they are over hyped. This one is definitely in the former. We love Magpie and think it’s a proper chippy – being in Whitby it has some stiff competition with Trenchers and Hadley’s. Any of these off will give you a decent chippy experience.

Both the Yorkshire chippies featured in The Guardian article are located in popular seaside locations so you can make them a point of interest after you’ve finished exploring. The only question now is, is it peas, gravy or curry sauce you’ll be having them with? Let us know.
