And, a newly opened chippy in a small East Yorkshire village is fast becoming on of the best in the country.
Honing the craft of making the most perfect fish & chips is no easy thing – and when you’ve tried the best, you appreciate what goes into making such a delicious dish. And, although chippies are common, great chippies that hit right every time – are still a thing of beauty to be celebrated.
Much like, this cheeky spot in the village of Flamborough on the East Yorkshire coast. Lighthouse Fisheries of Flamborough has been named as one of the best and is currently in the running for the title of the nation’s best having been shortlisted to the final 20 in the UK for this year’s Takeaway of the Year in the National Fish and Chip Awards 2024.

An esteemed judging panel meticulously sifted through contenders, ultimately narrowing the selection down to just 10 exceptional establishments. The Yorkshire contenders vying for the prestigious title along with the village of Flamborough’s cheeky chippy include Mister C’s in Selby, Auckley Friery in Doncaster, and The Fish Bank situated in Sherburn-in-Elmet.

Awards organiser and National Federation of Fish Friers president, Andrew Crook, said: “To be awarded Takeaway of the Year status by the fish and chip industry is something that many a chip shop business wants to attain. It’s not an easy thing to accomplish and we’re incredibly happy for, and proud of, these 10 brilliant finalists which are edging nearer to what will be a truly amazing outcome for one of them.”
The winner of the the best chippy in the UK for 2024 will be announced in London next year on the 28th February.
