Two Yorkshire Spots Named In Top 5 UK Getaways For Summer 2025

Summer is here and with eight out of ten British people opting to stay in the country this year, in what is set to be the warmest on record what are the best spots to visit? Staycations are becoming increasingly popular as people opt to visit places closer to home. And, Yorkshire has plenty of spots to visit.

According to new data from Independent Cottages two Yorkshire spots have made it into the top five UK destinations for getaways in summer 2025 with many being found surrounded by lush countryside.

In second place was the popular Yorkshire Dales market town Grassington which is used as the fictional village of Darrowby in the hit Channel 5 show All Creatures Great and Small. The village has plenty of scenic walks on its doorstep including Linton Falls, which has an iconic Dales drystone walls lined walk down from the village centre.

Harrogate, which was recently named among the best places to live in the UK, came in third place. It’s known for being an elegant spa with a mix of Victorian heritage including its Turkish Baths, luxury shopping, and countryside proximity being just a short drive from the Dales.

Harrogate beat out popular destinations such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Newquay and Great Yarmouth to reach the number-one spot UK’s top staycation spot to drive back in October. Staycations are becoming ever-popular as people choose to visit spots closer to home. And AA experts found after conducting their own analysis that North Yorkshire’s own was the top choice.

Matthew Fox, the CEO of Independent Cottages, said: “While destinations like Ashbourne, the gateway to the Peak District, and Keswick in the Lake District National Park, are popular outdoor locations, it’s more under-the-radar spots that are on Brits’ radars in summertime.”
