This Yorkshire Town Has Been Named In Top 10 Happiest Places To Live In UK 2023

It’s that time of year again when Rightmove released its happiest places to live list reminding us all that we are supposedly miserable unless we live down south, or in Wales according to this year’s list. The list known as the Happy at Home Index asked 26,000 people across Britain.

They have to answer how they feel about a range of aspects about where they live, ranging from sense of community to access to green space. Rightmove then compile the stats and rank downs on 13 ‘happiness’ factors. And, this year Skipton ‘Gateway to the Dales’, came in sixth place.

Last year’s list saw Yorkshire’s spa town of Harrogate make the list in sixth place also, but it seems Skipton residents have had a happy spike this year and made their way up the charts. Harrogate hasn’t made the list this year having featured 3rd in 2021, 6th in 2022 and 9th in 2020.

Skipton has made its way back in after not featuring in since 2020 where it came 2nd, so it looks like it got a whole lot cheerier. And, how could it not? You’d be cheery it you had the likes of Malham Cove, Bolton Abbey, the River Aire and the Leeds Liverpool Canal, right on your doorstep.

It is also home to the fantastic Skipton Castle and the surrounding castle woods, which is the number one thing to do in the town.

Rightmove’s survey found that people seem to be happier living in rural areas over cities – especially if they lived near a national park or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The trend of wanting nature and green space from lockdown seems to have not shifted. People also want public transport, shops and restaurants.
