Yorkshire City Ranks In Top 25 Trending Destinations To Visit In 2021

Cobbled streets, the York Minster and the fact you are never more than a stone’s throw away from a pub are just some of the reasons why York is such a hotspot for tourism. And, despite the pandemic, it has seen a rise in popularity in 2020 and has been recognised by TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Awards landing in a top 25 list.

Yes, that’s right. York, in North Yorkshire, has seen an increase in positive ratings and reviews over 2020, which has seen them awarded and placed 22nd for the World’s Top Trending Destinations. That’s in the world – what an achievement York – take a bow. The Top Trending category recognises destinations that actually grew in popularity over the pandemic.

York stood out from all the rest for travellers during the pandemic – which restricted travellers plans.

Sean Bullick, Managing Director of Make It York said, “We are delighted that York has been recognised at this international level in awards which are based on the ratings and reviews of visitors themselves. This recognition is a testament to the fantastic range of local businesses we have in the city that have consistently been going above and beyond to adapt to the shifting circumstances of the pandemic and provide top quality, safe visitor experiences in line with the changing tier restrictions over the last few months.

“York’s unique offer – which combines culture and heritage with world-class hospitality, attractions and retail, is what makes it really stand out as a visitor destination and we look forward to being able to welcome visitors and residents safely back into the city to experience York again when the current lockdown restrictions are lifted.”

York has blossomed over the last year with plans for the future with new bars and venues opening. One of our favourites that we can’t wait to get to post-lockdown is Impossible, York’s new opulent cocktail bar that serves Terry’s Chocolate Orange desserts & drinks.

As well as this, the landmark Aviva insurance building is being turned into a boutique hotel with a rooftop bar where you can enjoy a cocktail while taking in the view of Lendal Bridge.
