An ice cream parlour in Yorkshire has created an absolute summer gem in the form of a Yorkshire pudding served with scoops of ice cream. It creates a great little twist on a British staple.
We’ve come across Yorkshire pudding in dessert form several times during our excursions across God’s Own Country. And, when done right, it’s an absolute treat. It works so well with ice cream, as the pud acts like an ice cream cone and complements the creaminess perfectly.
Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream, based in Skipton, is serving up this unexpected treat, but for a limited time only. So, if it sounds like your kind of thing, you’d better act now, as it’s only available until 31st July.
The sweet-meets-savoury combination was partly inspired by a recent collaboration between Aunt Bessie’s and Anya Hindmarch’s Ice Cream Project, which featured Vanilla and Golden Syrup-flavoured ice cream with chunks of Aunt Bessie’s Golden Glorious Yorkshire Puddings at a London pop-up in June.
One of London’s strangest and most anticipated summer pop-ups, the Ice Cream Project is open now and once again transforming nostalgic British cupboard staples into bizarre-sounding scoops of ice cream and sorbet.
Located in The Village in Chelsea, the Ice Cream Project draws queues down the street every summer – and with good reason. Let’s hope that they bring it up North, so us Yorkshire folk can experience it.
If you do want Yorkshire puds and ice cream, you can head over to the Yorkie Cow in Ilkley, which serves up a whole menu dedicated to Yorkshire puddings.
Scott Rogers, owner of Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream, said: “The Yorkshire pudding is one of our county’s most famous exports, but there are more ways to enjoy it beyond a Sunday roast. It’s definitely raised a few eyebrows among traditionalists, but most people are quickly converted. It’s a bit of fun, and it’s proudly Yorkshire.”
Mr Rogers added: “We loved the idea of celebrating the Yorkshire pudding in a completely unexpected way and wanted to bring that excitement back to the home of the pud in Yorkshire.
“It’s definitely raised a few eyebrows among traditionalists, but most people are quickly converted, so I’d encourage people to try it for themselves and make up their own minds. It’s a bit of fun, it’s proudly Yorkshire and, judging by the reactions so far, it may just be here to stay.”
