Whitby Has Been Named The UK’s Most Popular Holiday Destination

In what comes as no shock to us Yorkshiremen, Whitby has been named the UK’s most popular holiday destination… And of course. First of all, it’s in Yorkshire – second of all, the historic seaside town is incredibly famous. Who wouldn’t wanna go to Whitby?

While it may come as a surprise to us being British and all, the UK is an extremely popular holiday destination for folks overseas (rain and all!), and it’s now been revealed that our very own coastal town Whitby was the most visited in 2019.

Yep, off you trot London, there’s a new kid on the block – and we’ve got vampires and stuff.

Based on 2019 booking and traffic data from Snaptrip.com, the UK holiday rental website revealed that Whitby took the top spot last year, becoming the most popular staycation spot from Brits looking for a getaway, and even coming in 8% cheaper than other destinations. Ah, good ol’ Yorkshire. The average price for a trip to Whitby was just £490 for 3 nights, with other destinations averaging around £528. Cheap as chips, we are!

What’s even better is that the South of England didn’t fair well on the list, with the North and England and Wales dominating the most popular destinations.

Here’s the top 10 most popular UK destinations:

  1. Whitby, North Yorkshire
  2. Tenby, Wales
  3. Anglesey, Wales
