Yorkshire’s own and one of the top TV chefs, James Martin, is heading to North Yorkshire this summer to headline a brand new festival, Flavours of Yorkshire. The food festival season is underway, and this new one is sure to be a welcome addition.
Held at Galtres Park, formerly known as Pickering Showground, the food festival is set to take place next month on Saturday, 4th July. You can expect live cooking demonstrations, and it is run by the organisers behind Malton’s renowned Food Lovers Festival, Mark Brayshaw of Rockin’ Horse Promotions. Best of all, the event will be free to attend.
James Martin, a local lad from near Malton, will also be signing copies of his books in the Kemp’s Festival Bookshop. As well as artisan food and drink stalls, there will be a cosmopolitan street food court, a family fun fair, and an inflatable zone.
Mark Brayshaw said: “I’ve seen first hand just how many people can be drawn to Ryedale by our fantastic array of local food and drink producers and I am delighted to have James Martin on board to launch this new event with three cookery demo sessions, in what will be something of a homecoming for him, having grown up in nearby Malton.
“But people looking for more than just another food festival are also in for a treat – Galtres Park, with its landscaped grounds, the indoor arena and a massive on-site car park, is the perfect large-scale venue for a ‘pick and mix’ of food, drink, music, leisure and fun.”
“With so much space to work with, we can combine a few features that have not been possible before, including The Whole Hog Professional BBQ Competition, sponsored by Cranswick, Yorkshire Baker and Weber. During the competition, there will also be free demos and talks from BBQ industry experts”.
Mark said admission to the festival will be free, with free car and coach parking on-site to keep costs low for visitors.
Electric Avenue is another new feature at Flavours of Yorkshire, which will be a display of new electric cars and bikes, with models that are established and some that are new to the UK manufacturers on display.
Tickets to watch James Martin’s displays range between £15 for a standing place and £40 for VIP front row seats. If this sounds like a bit of you, head over to the website here to buy to see James Martin.
