All Creatures Great and Small is the heartwarming cosy cuddle we all needed after the pandemic, and its Christmas special promises more themes of community spirit, togetherness and humour that is just what the doctor ordered this Christmas.
Channel 5 have given its viewers a sneak preview of what’s to come with the return of its Christmas episode with new images and a teaser trailer released by Channel 5. The images show festivities in full flow in Darrowby, which is filmed in the picturesque village of Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales.
The second series ended how everyone had hoped with James and Helen getting engaged, a far cry away from where they were at in the previous Christmas special.
Teasing festive drama and some long-awaited romance for Tristan, it seems the Christmas special may just deliver the perfect treat this Christmas Eve for fans.

When Is ‘All Creatures Creatures Great And Small’ Christmas Special?
It has just been announced that the ‘All Creatures Great And Small’ Christmas special will premiere on Channel 5 on Christmas Eve at 9pm. The television series set in 1937 chronicles the adventures of a young country vet in the fictional Yorkshire town of Darrowby.
Grassington was once again transformed Darrowby, and the kind people of The Mill House in the Nidderdale region of the Yorkshire Dales gave us permission to share some images of the beautiful transformation.
And there is a festive feel to the images with bunting hanging from many of the shops such as Higgins Confectionary, J.A Dean’s cloths shop and Darrowby Ironmongers.
The images, are a great insight to the detail that it takes to create to beautiful sets that help transport us back in time and enjoy a fleeting moment of the past. The All Creatures Great and Small Christmas special is a jewel in the crown of Channel 5’s schedule and one that we are sure few will miss.
What To Expect In All Creatures Great & Small Christmas Special
James is set to attend to a seriously ill sheep, whilst Seigfried deals with Mrs Pumphrey’s spoiled pooch Tricki Woo. James also receives a phone call from his father leaving him with the choice of where to spend Christmas Day. Is Mrs Hall going to be disappointed? Or will James stick to having his Christmas feast at Skeldale House?
Season Two is set in 1938, so history buffs out there will know that there is a foreboding at the prospect of war. Neville Chamberlain, the Prime Minister at the time enter peace talks, but we all know how that goes.
There are a few things on the horizon for the Christmas special. One thing is for sure that it will be a touching tribute to family values and leave us all feeling festive and ready for our Christmas dinners.
What We Know About All Creatures Great & Small Series 3
Showrunner Ben Vanstone confirmed that “there’s plenty more to come.” and when asked about a third series said: “Yes, I think we are looking forward to a third series. I don’t think that’s a surprise”, as seen in the Radio Times.
Vanstone had originally planned for a four-season show but now believes that the adaptation has more legs in it, which is by no small part due to the slow pace that fans love.
