It’s not easy to uncover hidden gems these days. Let’s face it, they’re usually in plain sight. But we think we’ve found one that truly is a hidden gem. Tucked away at the Cedar Court Hotel in Harrogate lies Amber’s – a brand-new luxurious restaurant residing inside the hotel, which, unless you’re in the know, you won’t pass on your usual potter around the upmarket town.
Opening back in April after a whopping £500,000 transformation, Amber’s oozes decadence and style – a description that can not only be applied to its decor, but the food and cocktails, too.
Boasting numerous menu highlights, Amber’s delivers a contemporary twist on traditional British cuisine, combining the best of the Yorkshire moors, dales and coast throughout the menu – including one of our favourite dishes, the Sunday roast.
Serving up a selection of roasted sirloin, roasted loin of Easingwold pork, and mixed nut roast, guests can tuck into a Yorkshire-portioned Sunday roast, with all the trimmings including honey-glazed root veggies, roast potatoes, greens and cauliflower cheese, with large Yorkshire puddings to finish it off.
But it’s the attention to detail that impressed us the most. Each roast is served with perfectly paired gravy – rather than ‘one gravy suits all’ – with the perfect rich beef gravy to accompany the beef, and a peppered cider cream gravy for the pork, helping to bring out the best of the flavours.
The Sunday menu joins Amber’s lunch and main menu, all served within their beautifully redesigned space created by Yorkshire-based interior design practice, Studio Two – an opulent and warming space that makes every dish feel extra special.
Dishes are beautifully crafted with a fine dining approach, resulting in picture-perfect plates that are almost too pretty to dig into. The restaurant boasts Executive Chef Steve Collinson at the helm, who previously spent fifteen years at fellow Yorkshire business, Oulton Hall and Spa – so you know you’re in good hands.
To finish off the meal, guests can retreat to their hidden bar, the Imaginarium – which is a beautiful lounge-like space which really adds to that luxury hotel feel. It’s a cosy spot where you can let the stomach settle after a fantastic meal with friends or family, and the perfect way to continue soaking up the vibes with carefully crafted cocktails. Our tip? Go for the food, stay for the decor.
For locals, Amber’s also offers an exclusive residents club known as ‘Friends of Amber’s’, which offers a 20% discount when visiting for Sunday lunch for those living in a HG1 or HG2 postcode, alongside other perks.
