It’s always nice to celebrate Yorkshire’s success stories, and one of Yorkshire’s Michelin-starred restaurants, the Angel Inn, at Hetton, is the latest place to scoop a prestigious award this weekend. Considered to be the “Oscars” of the hotel industry, the Angel Inn has managed to grab itself a Good Hotel Guide Cesar Award for ‘Inn of the Year’.

The award was one of ten that was passed out for the 2021 Good Hotel Guide, which came out just yesterday. The hotel is owned by chef Michael Wignall and wife Johanna, who said it’s “lovely” to be recognised. The awards are named after the hotelier Cesar Ritz and take into account a year of consistent excellence.

It has been a turbulent year for the hospitality industry as COVID stopped business almost completely back in March, when establishments were made to close their doors and cease trading altogether. And with signs of the spread of coronavirus in the UK increasing every day, it is still a nervous time to be working within the industry, which is the perfect reason to celebrate such success stories when they do arise.

Whilst they were closed, the landmark Dales pub made huge refurbishments, it’s 15th-century build has had a new contemporary look. The Angel Inn is somewhere we’ve had on our radar and cannot wait to try their beautiful menu, even more so now. The place looks sleek and modern on the inside, yet, with the warm wood-burning fire, it feels intimate and cosy.
