BBC’s ‘Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing’ Visits East Yorkshire In Latest Episode

The hit BBC show Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing is well into its seventh series with the pair already visiting Norfolk and the North of Ireland. And not the comedy pairing are coming to Yorkshire. That’s right. Earlier this year they were spotted in an East Yorkshire coffee shop and now the episode is set to air this Sunday.

The show follows the funny duo as they visit various beautiful fishing spots in the UK. They chat about life-affirming topics, as well as share their (usually comedic) outlooks on life while they try to land a catch.

Episode three sees the pair fishing for brown trout in Driffield Beck, the most northerly chalk stream in Europe. Located in Driffield, otherwise known as the Capital of the Wolds due to its location in the Yorkshire Wolds the northernmost chalk hills in the UK. They fish the Driffield Beck at Mulberry Whin and the river has a constant temperature of 10 degrees celsius.

It also happens to be the home of The Yorkshireman, so we know the area well – and can’t wait to see it brought to life through the BBC programme, which is renowned for highlighting the most peaceful rivers in the country.

The episode airs at 9pm on BBC Two on the Sunday 6th October. The synopsis for the episode reads: “Bob and Paul head to the historic chalk stream of Driffield Beck at Mulberry Whin in the East Riding of Yorkshire, an idyllic setting for the pair as they set out to catch wild brown trout. Ted is obsessed with rolling in the mud on the riverbank and gets himself into a very messy state, leading Bob to book an appointment at a luxurious doggy spa not far from their fishing spot”

This isn’t the first time the pair have visited Yorkshire. Back in 2020, in the Christmas special, they visited the Yorkshire coastline destination – which is also one of the largest fishing ports in the North East. You can enjoy discovering some amazing views, or take a walk through the village and take in the 18th-century cottages. The show showcases the Transporter Bridge and The Crathorne Arms, as well as the beautiful harbour of Staithes.
