Model trains, traditional pubs and boats floating in a harbour, Bondville Model Village in Sewerby is a magical place that lets children minds run wild and investigate whilst parents have a huge hit of nostalgia. This model village has everyone from toddlers to grandmas and grandads.
Feel like a giant as you explore the 1-acre site that holds this wonderous village and notice detail after detail as you are guided around this hidden gem found on the east coast of Yorkshire where the only thing that isn’t miniature is the afternoon tea.
Found on the outskirts of Bridlington, it was originally developed back in 1987, and took two years to develop the hundreds of handcrafted buildings such as cottages, castles, an Abbey and even a caravan park that make up this incredible attraction.
The detailed village with its cricket pitch, where figures are pitted against the other team and bunting is hung up in shops for celebrations, is not modelled on anywhere specific, but still reminds all that visit of something familiar, whether it’s the fishing boats and cruisers moored up by the river or the pubs and churches.
You can enjoy a family quiz to help keep kids engaged as they explore, making sure they keep an eye out for the elusive fox – who knows there could even be a prize at the end. The trail sheet also gives you and the kids a chance to focus on the attention to detail that has gone into the creating of Bondville Model Village.
There aren’t many aspects of village life that haven’t been covered in this incredible place. There are 900 figures, from cars to points to explore, all making up a miniature British village that is maintained daily ready for you to explore.
And once you’ve finished exploring, you can have a spot of afternoon tea with sandwiches, slices of cake overlooking the beautiful Model Village. There is even a gift shop where you can buy your child a momento from the memorable day out.
