You Can Now Stay The Night In The Brontë Sisters’ Actual Bedroom In Yorkshire

Literary bragging rights. That’s what’s promised when you spend the night at Brontë Birthplace – the actual childhood home of the famous Yorkshire authors.

Lovingly restored by a passionate committee that strives to preserve the legacy of the Brontë sisters, Brontë Birthplace in Thornton, Bradford, officially opened back in March, welcoming its first visitors after acquiring and restoring the property to reflect how it was when the Brontë family lived there.

Transporting guests to the early 19th century, the team has painstakingly sourced antique items as close to the originals (which currently live at the Brontë Parsonage Museum), so guests can be truly immersed in the time period. But the coolest part? The bedrooms have been restored, too, so you can even stay overnight in the Brontë sisters’ former bedroom.

From the parlour where the sisters were born, to the bedroom they shared throughout childhood, guests get the full experience at Brontë Birthplace, and can even spend the night in one of the three bedrooms within the house – including the room where all six siblings slept, the parent’s room, and an additional bedroom that looks over the Brontë Bell Chapel.

Original features have been retained for visitors to enjoy, from original fireplaces to original wardrobes. Unlike the 1800s, guests do have the luxury of Wifi when visiting Brontë Birthplace, and, of course, running water for overnight guests.

In addition to overnight stays, guests can also visit for a day trip, too, where you can take part in a guided tour of the house or enjoy a cuppa by the original living room fireplace, where the family would have gathered together.

It’s a rare insight into the early days of the literary trio, who have gone down in history as not only famous Yorkshire women, but iconic British writers who are globally renowned – even two centuries on.

Charlotte, Emily and Anne lived at the property in Thornton for the early years of their life, before relocating to what’s now known as Brontë Parsonage in 1820, where they lived until their deaths. The Parsonage is where they wrote their famous novels, including Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights.
