Leeds-Based YouTuber Goes Viral After Reviewing 80-Year-Old Yorkshire Fish & Chip Shop

Danny Malin, the viral YouTube sensation and the face of Rate My Takeaway is still travelling around the country trying the greatest takeaway offerings. He went viral when he reviewed a northern grandma’s Full English breakfast. This time the Leeds-based legend is in York visiting a chippy that is 80 years old.

The North Yorkshire chip shop Millers Fish & Chips in Haxby is a favourite with the locals and seems to go down a hit with Danny, who, at one point in the video, says the fish is “bigger than his foot”. The hilarious Danny is on form in this video and had us chuckling after being “scared to death” when a girl pops up a window to take his order.

After taking his order he gets sat at his trademark table and chair and can be heard joshing with workmen off-camera “Alright pal you having a break are ya.”

Speaking with the fourth-generation owner of the chip shops we find out that it first started back in 1914 during the First World War. The current shop has been there for 55 years, which is a testament to its service to the community.

They discuss adapting to the pandemic and having to embrace the new way of functioning – which is true about restaurants and takeaways across the country. Inside the restaurant, we can see a timeline of this family business, which is great to see.

To be fair, when Danny gets his fish, it is absolutely massive! He describes the batter as “really light and really crisp,” before getting stuck into some ‘proper chip shop gravy’ that looks rich and thick.

Danny sums up his feelings about the place saying “This fella is doing his family proud here.” We’d have to agree, the fish & chips look absolutely incredible and what Danny is doing by highlighting these great venues around the area is brilliant – keep up the good work Danny!
