Exciting news for pizza lovers in York, Dough Eyed Pizza, which closed back in 2023 opened its doors once more this month and once again join the York pizza scene. Teaming up with Burton Agnes Hall pizzaiolo Adam Gardener, Chris Phillips is back and the pair are serving up some of the best pizza in this historic city.
It was sad news for the Neapolitan pizza spot ideally located on the busy Shambles Market when it had to close, but the bar and restaurant is has risen from the ashes and has resumed operations once more with tasty contemporary-style pizza served alongside an array of beers and cocktails.
Having tried Gardeners pizzas at current home at Burton Agnes Hall in East Yorkshire – which is some of the best we’ve ever tried – we expected big things from the new partnership and Dough Eyed Pizza delivered.

We enjoyed some of the new pizzeria’s classic pizza offerings. The menu is packed full of flavourful dishes, and while we love a classic – – our favourite had to be the n’duja pizza with a pumpkin base. The leopard print crust and tantalising tastes had us preparing from the next bite after each one.
The venue has kept up with its talent for selecting the best craft ales around serving up local Yorkshire favourites as well as others that you can select from their beer menu up on the screen. After all, what’s a pizza without a tasty refreshing beer?
If that wasn’t enough, they also have some fantastic cocktails from the classic Negroni to a naughty Ameretto sour or a cherry margarita.
And, in addition to their incredible menu of savoury pizzas, you can also try out their tear and share desserts too Which consist of their soft doughs with a sweet twist. If that wasn’t all, the pizzeria is also dog friendly so you can bring your little doggo along with you.
