That’s right! If you’re looking for something to do this Easter holiday, then look no further than the East Yorkshire gem of Kingston Upon Hull. If it’s good enough for a king, it’s good enough for us. It was named as the best place in Great Britain for a staycation due to a range of factors.
A UK-wide study named Hull the best place to visit, beaten only by Derry in Northern Ireland. ASpects such as its “thriving arts scene, vintage shopping, cobbled Old Town, and stunning architecture” where reasons the study gave as to why you should be staycationing in the Yorkshire city.
It also stated that the East Yorkshire city had a huge range of leisure and cultural activities as well as being attractive and well-priced. And with the port-city being home to the beautiful old town, marina and refurded Humber Street, we can see why SumUp who conducted the research picked Hull.

It used a range of cost-related metrics to determine the best staycation spots like prices of meals and entertainment, as well as recreational amenities like museums, theatres, and green spaces.

The study stated: “With a rich seafaring history and a thriving arts scene, it’s no wonder it ranks second on our list. This port city boasts intriguing museums, a cobbled Old Town, and stunning architecture, such as Hull Minster, which visitors flock to.
“Kingston upon Hull also boasts a wide selection of reasonably priced leisure activities and the average price of a cinema ticket is just £6.00. Hull also has 10 vintage shops and 24 fashion designer stores per 100,000 people. The city’s fashion scene also provides Brits with some of the best bargains, with the combined price of a pair of Levi 501s and a summer dress costing £88.”
The Marina’s Spurn Lightship museum has had a huge renovation and is also set to open in spring. The museum will focus on new projections, film and immersive south and graphics so visitors can explore the lightships and its rich history. It’s just one of the Maritime history of Hull to explore. The restoration of the ship forms part of the £30m maritime project, according to Hull City Council.
Other project aims are to refurbish the Maritime Musuem, which is underway and redevelop the former North End Shipyard.
Your usual cities such as Manchester and London failed to rank in the top 10 with Manchester in 20th place and London in 21st.
