Wow, the world is a fascinating place. Taking 2020 to new, unexpected heights – a swingers festival is taking place in Hull next month, in spite of Coronavirus, with organisers promising that they have social distancing measures in place for the safety of attendees. I mean, if you’re talking about my teenage sex life then social distancing would have been easy, but at a swingers party… It doesn’t take a genius to see how this might be a problem.
Taking place at a club in Hull named HU9, the event will have an array of activities such as DJs, tribute acts and an ‘adult bouncy castle’. Hull Live reported that the event is currently being advertised on a swingers website.
HU9’s owner, Rob Smith, has said of opening, “We are a private member’s club and not a sex club. We have put measures in place to adhere to government guidelines are working closely with the council to ensure it is a safe environment. We’ve closed off our play area and we don’t have a full alcohol licence yet. Tickets will only be sold from an online ticket site where full refunds can be given.”
“Stewards will ensure social distancing will be put in place. Only 50 people will be allowed inside the venue at any one time.”
A spokesperson for Hull City Council said of the event: “The owner of the venue has been advised by Environmental Health of the current Covid-19 restrictions imposed on gatherings and activities. The authority has been made aware by the venue of an event that is being planned end of August involving members of public.”
“We have had initial discussions with the operator. Once further detailed information is received, like all events, it will consider this further in relation to the proposed event being compliant with current restrictions imposed by Covid-19 and advice on any public safety issues.”
Just when you thought that 2020 could not get any more crazy, Hull pulls a story out the bag that has entertained us in many ways. Here we are waiting for the theatres, music venues and other entertainment venues to open, we forgot to think about the local swingers clubs.
