You can’t beat this time of year. The run-up to Christmas is our absolute favourite! With dark nights creeping in but the weather still mild enough to enjoy being outside, town centres start to look magical with twinkling lights and the warm glow from shop and pub windows.
Hull’s Museums Quarter is set to be transformed this weekend, on Saturday 29th and 30th November, bringing traditional festive magic to life with a historic pantomime, a classic fairground carousel, and plenty of old-fashioned Christmas charm. The weekend forms part of Hull’s wider festive programme, which also includes a Christmas market along King Edward Street and live musical performances inside Princes Quay.
The city centre spot will be transformed into a festive wonderland with Christmas-themed trails that lead you into the minster and around the beautiful borough. There will be a whole host of historical Christmas characters mingling with the crowds.

BBC reports that Hull City Councillor Rob Pritchard described the plans as “the perfect opportunity for families to begin their Christmas shopping in a wonderfully festive setting,” encouraging visitors to dress up for the occasion in Victorian outfits.
Hull Museums will host a range of nostalgic activities, giving visitors the chance to discover what presents Victorian children might have unwrapped on Christmas morning. Throughout the weekend, the Eclectic Music saxophonists will perform seasonal favourites, while the Barton Community Brass Band and Hull Visual Choir will also take to the stage.

The Northern Academy of Performing Arts will add a touch of theatre with a special production of A Christmas Ghost Story.
The celebrations won’t stop there. Whitefriargate will host street entertainers, and festive food and drink stalls will pop up across the area. Families can also book a visit to see Father Christmas at the Streetlife Museum for £10 via the Hull Museums website.
Most of the weekend’s activities are free to enjoy, with the exception of the carousel, which will cost £3 per rider.Hull’s Christmas weekend will run from 10am–4pm on Saturday 29 November and 11am–4pm on Sunday 30 November, promising a warm and joyful start to the festive season. Pritchard added that the event aims to create “a truly magical and memorable atmosphere for everyone.”
To make the celebrations even more accessible, Hull Trains is offering free return travel to Hull from Doncaster, Selby, Howden and Brough on selected services throughout November and December.
Service delivery director Lou Mendham said: “Christmas is always a special time in the region, and we’re delighted to help people reach the heart of the city with free travel.”
