Kebabs don’t have to be just for the drunken, and this gourmet kebab restaurant in Leeds proves just that.
I Am Doner has three sites across Yorkshire, but its Leeds City Centre restaurant in particular has caught the eyes of the British Kebab Awards, scooping up the title of ‘Highly Recommended Best Newcomer Restaurant’ just last night.
The prestigious awards highlight the best takeaways in the UK for kebabs specifically, and we imagine it’s some very lucky souls job to go up and down the country on the hunt for the greatest kebab the UK has to offer.
Beginning their journey as a small takeaway in Headingley, I Am Doner has come a long way since their humble beginnings, now operating in Headingley, Leeds City Centre and Harrogate. Not your traditional kebab shop, the spot uses 160 ingredients across their six kebab options, using homemade bread and sauces, feta, and high quality meats for the ultimate kebab. Their menu isn’t just for the drunk either, with delicious lunch options that sober people go mad for.
The guys behind I Am Doner are genuinely a nice bunch, donating 10p from every kebab sold to a local cause and using 100% plastic free packaging to do their bit for the environment. The award-winning kebab shop is headed up by a guy who really knows his stuff, having worked in a Michelin star restaurant and being trained by top chefs, before bagging himself a position as a head chef in up-market Clitheroe. With a passion for good grub, Paul Baron has created a delicious, flavourful Berlin-inspired kebab offering that sheds the doner kebab’s bad rep, starting a revolution for the healthier, more dignified kebab.
I’ll eat to that!
