8. Sonia’s Smile

Next on our list of the best shops in Haworth is one that has an incredibly inspiring backstory. The shop is named after an 8-year-old girl from Peru with a glowing smile in a photo taken by a friend of the owner, Rita, in Cusco in 1992. She was one of several children selling their family’s homemade items. The photographer bought a pair of socks from Sonia for just £1.

The photo and this experience inspired Rita to open a shop in Haworth that offers fair-trade goods and helps create a better world. This became a reality in 2001, and since then, it has become a popular staple of shoppers on Haworth’s Main Street.

Inside Sonia’s Smile, you’ll find an array of colourful and beautiful clothing, accessories, and homeware for both adults and children. You can also treat yourself to ‘Divine Chocolate’, available in a range of dark, milk, and white chocolate. There is also a selection of candles, incense, soaps, and oils.
