James Bond actress, Dame Judi Dench says she can’t see on film sets anymore and is unable to read scripts due to her deteriorating eyesight.
Despite this, the 88 actress from North Yorkshire has said she has alternate ways of learning her lines by being taught by her friends. Having a photographic memory helps, the Oscar-winning actress says.
Dench revealed she as macular degeneration, which leads to a gradual loss of vision. Dame Judi has said she wants to “work as much as I can”, according to Sky News.
The condition affects the middle part of a person’s vision and is frequent between people in their 50s and 60s, according to the NHS website.
The actress told The Mirror’s Notebook magazine: “I mean, I can’t see on a film set anymore. And I can’t see to read. So I can’t see much.”But, you know, you just deal with it. Get on.
“It’s difficult for me if I have any length of a part. I haven’t yet found a way. Because I have so many friends who will teach me the script. But I have a photographic memory.”
Dench’s condition does not cause total blindness, but can make everyday activities such as facial recognition and reading difficult.
