Leeds Bradford Airport’s Brand New Terminal Has Opened To The Public

The first phase of Leeds Bradford Airport’s £100 million terminal expansion project has been completed, with the Yorkshire airport opening its brand-new terminal to passengers.

The new terminal comes with a number of benefits for passengers, including a modernised arrivals process, a new baggage reclaim area and an upgraded passport control facility incorporating advanced security technologies, “designed to make journeys smoother and more efficient”. If that wasn’t all, passengers can also enjoy an 83% increase in seating, and new food and drink options, providing more variety and choice than ever before.

In addition to new food and drink options, two new premium lounges have been introduced, enhancing the pre-flight experience for those looking for a little more comfort while waiting for their flight. The new Six Eight One Premium Lounge offers a stylish space to relax in, alongside seasonal menus boasting dishes crafted with locally sourced produce.

Now the terminal is open, Phase 2 of the project has begun, which involves refurbishing the existing terminal and modernising the existing infrastructure.

By the end of 2026, the airport will boast:

  • 38% more floorspace
  • 76% more retail space
  • 83% more seating
  • 77% increase in luggage reclaim belt capacity
  • 50% more security lanes.

Vincent Hodder, CEO, Leeds Bradford Airport commented: “We are delighted to see our new terminal extension open and operational today. It has been an incredible journey to get here, and we know our customers are going to get a completely new experience from LBA from today.

“It’s an exciting time for us too; for our employees, stakeholders and business partners, the opening of this building is a huge achievement for all involved.”

John Cunliffe, Commercial Director of Leeds Bradford Airport, commented: “Today is a huge milestone for Leeds Bradford Airport. Our new terminal is officially open and ready to welcome passengers, offering improve[d] facilities and enabling us to deliver an enhanced experience for passengers in the region.

“As we transition into Phase 2 of the project, the changes will impact the usual passenger flows, and we’d like to thank passengers in advance for their understanding.”

Phase 2 will impact some existing processes; therefore, passengers should check the LBA website to determine which changes affect them.
